#78 Verses Of Eight

Looking in the mirror and feeling okay
Liking my life a little more each day
Sharing my bed with man’s best friend
Shaving my legs most every weekend
Walks on the beach…picking up shells
No second dates or wedding bells
Sitting at the keyboard to pass the time
Writing some…my life in rhyme

Don’t feel sorry for me…I asked for this
Those “good old days” that I don’t really miss
Taking life for granted and living in sin
Commandments…hmmm…did I break all ten?
Drugs and sex, give me more…not a remedy
Out all night…partying like a Kennedy
Forgetting my values…testing my faith?
Maggie is alive…Maureen is just a wraith

They say what doesn’t kill you …makes you stronger
I might have proved them wrong if I tried a little longer
Shaming myself as I rushed to the bottom
Wishes and “druthers”…dude I got’em
Sad is a train…with many cars
Drugs are a prison…absent of bars
Friends are cellmates…along for the ride
If only memories could be wiped like the tears I cried

If not for rock bottom…I’d have missed the climb
Where I learned to like Maureen and how to rhyme
And nobody kissed me on New Year’s Eve
No promises to keep…just words to weave
No place to be…no place to go
An expansive vocabulary since I just said “No”
No deadlines or commitments…reasons to be late
I just tell my stories in verses of eight.

The difficulty with marriage is that we fall in love with a personality, but must live with a character.
~Peter Devries

I dreamed of a wedding of elaborate elegance,
A church filled with family and friends.
I asked him what kind of a wedding he wished for,
He said one that would make me his wife.

~Author Unknown

Trip over love, you can get up. Fall in love and you fall forever.
