#36 I Do (A Wedding Poem)

“Choose me” he said and “share my life”
With ring in hand “please, be my wife.”
One tender kiss did seal our fate,
With plans in mind, we set the date.

We chose the church, I picked my dress
He found the tux he liked the best.
My flowers bought, a cake to taste,
As gifts poured in no time to waste.

Then God smiled down upon our day,
The guests arrived, they’d found their way.
My Daddy smiled and Momma cried,
Their little girl the blushing bride.

He saw me there on Daddy’s arm
And gave his vow to never harm
The woman who stood by his side
That grateful groom adored his bride.

With something borrowed something blue,
I promised him, my love was true
As tears fell down, I knew somehow
He was the one and made my vow.

He raised my veil, then kissed his bride,
We stood there proud, both smiling wide.
God blessed our marriage from above
Surrounding us with those we love.

In his strong arms, I gently swayed,
We were in love, the music played
As friends drew near, close by our side,
They toasted to the groom and bride.

Both thankful for our wedding day,
We waved goodbye and drove away,
And learned to love till night was done,
Then man and wife awoke as one.

The difficulty with marriage is that we fall in love with a personality, but must live with a character.
~Peter Devries

I dreamed of a wedding of elaborate elegance,
A church filled with family and friends.
I asked him what kind of a wedding he wished for,
He said one that would make me his wife.
