Sophie Hannah

Sophie Hannah Sophie Hannah was born in 1971 in Manchester. She was educated at the University of Manchester, where she studied English Literature and Spanish. Fellow Commoner in the Creative Arts at Trinity College, Cambridge, and a Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford, she currently teaches at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Writing School. She was awarded an Eric Gregory Award in 1995 and was a Patron for the Swansea Year of Literature in the same year.

She is the author of three novels, Gripless (1999), Cordial and Corrosive (2000) and, most recently, The Superpower of Love (2001). She also writes for children and is the author of several collections of poetry, including Hotels Like Houses (1996), which was awarded an Arts Council Writers’ Award, and Leaving and Leaving You (1999).

Sophie Hannah lives in Yorkshire and Oxford. Her most recent collection of poetry is First of the Last Chances (2003). In 2004, she was named as one of the Poetry Book Society’s ’Next Generation’ poets.
