#52 Happy Mother's Day, Ma...
My mother was my first mentor.
Much she gave to herself to me.
From birth and through the years I grew,
Her guidance was there to 'see' me through.
And when I became bold enough to question her 'style'
She would give that mother's 'look' to me her child.
And the day I raised my voice to say...
'It's time for me to do it my way! '
I packed a bag and threatened to run away!
She said, 'Okay! Run away and stay!
You think you're grown...have it your way.
I've done my best for you and your sisters...
Get out! You're grown...you're on your own, 'Mister'! '
And even though I was just 16...
I tried it on my own and found the streets cold and mean!
She knew then I wasn't prepared to leave,
And I returned within hours to end my mother's grief.
Those days I miss that seem not long ago.
I had been blessed with her presence...
That has more essence today as I grow.
Happy Mother's Day, ma...
So much to you I owe.
