#160 FOR EVERY WOMAN
This poem is for every woman that made it
Who's life did not end
With them laying in a casket
The pain and shame you felt
You were too proud to admit
Lying to the police
Because you were afraid to tell them
Of the crimes he commit
Walking around with kit glove
Don't' know when he would break out into a fit
Because you know you would be the first one
That would get hit
And you laid in the hospital
Doctors fixing your broken arm
And the lip his fist split
You silently ask yourself
How could you have married this lunatic
This poem is for the women that hid it so well
Victim of domestic violence
You thought no one would believe you
Who could you tell
How many times did you give them the same excuse
'Girl could you believe I tripped and fell'
But your kids already knew
They saw when daddy made mommy's eyes swell
They remember when all he did
Was hit and yell
Seeing them begging him to stop
Made you wonna take your own life
Anything to leave this hell
And willing to give anything
Just to be free of him
Even your soul you would sell
Remembering your mama warned you of him
You had to show her you were grown
So you rebelled
This poem is for every woman that made it through the rain
A new beginning for you
No more pain
Or nights when you silently cried
Thinking you would go insane
You can hold your head high now
No longer do you have to feel shame
No more bloody lips or bloody noses
Or sheet stains
Or bruises on your body
That tells the story of every lash you sustained
You ran out of reasons
Why the man you love hurts you
How could you explain
Not wanting to destroy the family
So your silence had to be maintained
But believe me when I say
Your struggles was not in vain
Because you were strong enough to break the chain
Many sisters did not make it to where you are
So many were slain
This poem is for the women who got away
And lived to tell their story this day
Tired of his pleading and promise to change
You stopped believing what he had to say
A coffin would not be where you lay
And though he told you
You would never make it
God heard your cries
And the nights you prayed
He made sure you're ok
But this poem is made especially for my mother
Who came out as pure as gold
She made it through the fire
Never given up always a fighter
She stopped being a victim
And became our protector
Taking us away from his danger
From the man we called father
No more crying now
In our house there is only laughter
And as she looks back
I know she is a lot stronger
This one is for you Mama
"If you want to know the past, to know what has caused you, look at yourself in
the PRESENT, for that is the past's effect. If you want to know your future, then look at
yourself in the PRESENT, for that is the cause of the future."

"Let go of your attachment to being right, and suddenly your mind is more open.
You're able to benefit from the unique viewpoints of others, without being crippled by
your own judgment."

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their
