#148 Fight of the Beast
I sit with my doctor in fear of what he'll say,
I don't know what to expect, especially today.
The fear grew so strong, I wanted to run
I can't face the thought of telling anyone.
The feeling of emptiness fluttered my soul,
knowing the beast has taken control.
It invaded my life with not the slightest remorse,
and dragged me through a heartless course.
The darkness grew, though the sun shone bright,
fighting back the tears with all my might.
You have a lot of fighting in the months ahead,
were the words I had circling inside my head.
Surgeries and chemo were the worse of my fears,
all that was said I couldn't control my tears.
Looking in the mirror, the reflection I'd see,
is that of the beast staring back at me.
The loss of my hair, my dignity and pride,
were all from the beast hiding inside.
My eyes so empty and hollow were they,
wishing this nightmare would just go away.
The needles and nausea, just wanting to die,
are the words in my heart, I knew were a lie.
Days would come and weeks would go,
courage and strength had started to show.
You took over my life with total control,
but what you can't have is my fighting soul.
I fought you now and I'll fight you again.
cause I know from experience you'll be beat in the end.
That horrible beast came to me with no answers,
For that beast I feared was...Breast cancer.
