#142 Ballerinas and Butterflies
Dedicated to Bobi - for all she lost and all she gained after surving a life altering closed head injury.
Oh, how I wish you could still see us,
the summer you were only four -
and I not much more.
Sunshine and open air became
our theatre extraordinaire,
In bathing suits and satin slips
cinched up tight around our hips,
we whirled and twirled
in our make-believe world!
Suspended in that time and place,
we took center stage in spandex and lace,
and charmed our unseen audience
with an enchanted innocent grace.
We flitted and floated on gossamer wings,
from flower to flower
in that garden of our imaginings
And knew that we could be anything -
like ballerinas or butterflies
we leapt and soared -
why, we could fly!
We were playmates and best of friends,
in that summer that knew no end.
Through the years we've shared
laughter and tears,
and yet, here we are now
more than just sisters or friends.
So I remember us then
for both of us now,
to bridge the pathway from then until now.
I'm just glad God gave you a second chance.
We can play and there's still time
to dance!
