#92 Weather Report
Monday's rain made us smile.
The trees flung their limbs into its
bath and candy wrappers sailed along the curb,
small boats making merry to the sewer.
By the third day, we joked about blueprints for an ark
with the boy who drizzled when he delivered the deli coffee.
Our accountant gave advice on flood insurance and talked about
checking the basement for leaks.
On Thursday I saw the orphaned umbrella,
crippled with broken ribs,
was gone from under the coat rack, adopted in extremis.
Yesterday the copying machine jammed with damp paper
and every sentence uttered was a declaration of war.
I woke this morning to see more tears
run down my window's cheek,
so I curled like a Chambered Nautilus in my wrinkled sheets
and closed my eyes to the aquarium without.
But now, great joy!
The sun stabs its fingers on my rug
and I'm as manic as the weather.
