#93 My Precious Son
I found you there,
In a fog of light,
Looking at me
Through that bright screen.
'It's a boy!'
She proclaimed.
I simply lay there,
With a smile,
Feeling like it was a dream.
All those years
I had waited
For you,
My only son.
You were coming
Soon you'd be mine,
I almost felt
My life's mission was done.
Months passed
Days spent shopping
For all things blue.
Finally, the day approached
That I'd finally get to meet you!
Excitement soared
Nerves were a wreck,
I want to be a perfect Mom!
It's time to leave now,
You're on your way,
I have to sit quietly for a minute
And get in one last 'Om'.
Pain's intense now,
And I must go
To welcome you to my world.
Suddenly fear sets in
About birth defects, diseases,
And'oh, my!
What if it turns out to be
Another girl?
A few grunts
A few pushes
And here you are,
My precious son!
You're beautiful!
You're perfect!
My life has now begun!
I craved that little
Bundle of joy
All dressed in blue.
The overalls,
The baseball caps,
Running through the house
Yelling, 'Choo choo!'
You're 2 now,
And you do bring joy,
I can't help but giggle
At the silly things
You say.
I have to admit, though,
I never thought I'd see this day
That'd I'd look at you,
My precious son,
Sigh, and say'
Why couldn't you have been a girl!!!
A baby is God's opinion that the world should go on.
Carl Sandburg
To put the world right in order, we must first put the nation in order;
to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put
the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life; we must
first set our hearts right. Confucius
Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide
forever to have your heart go walking outside your body. Elizabeth Stone
Perhaps the greatest social service that can be rendered by anybody to
this country and to mankind is to bring up a family. G.B. Shaw

In every dispute between parent and child, both
cannot be right, but they may be, and usually are, both wrong. It is this
situation which gives family life its peculiar hysterical charm.
Isaac Rosenfeld
