A Stamp and a Pen
Dear Henry and Deborah,
These words are a tribute
To a remarkable union
Which is precisely the reason
For this family reunion.
Henry and Deborah
Were teenagers when
They developed their friendship
With a stamp and a pen.
Henry was older and
Knew without doubt,
While Deborah broke hearts
Henry waited her out.
Henry persisted in writing
His Deb
And at eighteen she finally
Succumbed to his web.
The postmaster delivered
More than a letter or two
The engagement ring even
Arrived that way, too.
They agreed to elope
And then started their life
Together, forever, as
Husband and wife.
The early days were filled
With spontaneous fun
When Deborah and Henry
Had just begun.
Last minute trips with no
Destination in mind
The excitement of seeing
What together they’d find.
Few women can claim
As Deborah can do
“My Henry chased a pig
Cause I wanted him to”
Heryn and Kiyan soon
Came along
And the family of four
Together grew strong.
I married the eldest then
The family grew more
Now the grandchildren
Are numbered at four.
Kilyn, our 'cool boy'
The trendsetter by far
The younger ones look to him
For setting the bar.
Adevian, our charmer, seems to
Favor his dad
His eye for the ladies is bound to
Drive the girls mad.
Xavier, our gentle soul
So caring and kind
Left-handed, artistic and
Creative in mind.
Deja, is our drama queen
Undeniably a daddy's girl true
A queen-be like her Na Na
She's six going on thirty-two.
Na Na and Pa Pa
By example they teach
Their actions reflecting the finest
Qualities to reach.
So Deborah and Henry
Today we celebrate you
And the thirty-five years
Since you both said 'I do'
Happy Aniversary!
