#5 Parent's Anniversary

Dear Mom and Dad,

We're here today in honor of
A most delightful pair
Who through the years have given us
A family beyond compare.

Our Mom and Dad have celebrated
All our special days,
And so we'd like to take this chance
To shower them with praise.

It all began on what became a
Famous first blind date,
They won't give us the details,
But we know that it was fate.

They shared their values and taste in food
(Italian, to be exact),
Then just like the old saying goes:
Well, opposites attract!

Jim put the ring in the visor mirror,
And told Janice to fix her hair,
She said 'no way!&' to Jim's chagrin
And fixed him with a glare.

But soon our lovely mother told
Our handsome Dad 'I do,'
Now forty years after the fact,
Their vows are just as true.

They've proven that they meant it when
They said 'to have and hold,'
Their marriage has even made it through
Those pants of glittering gold!

Both of them have shown us all
A life brimming with love,
In their own ways, they've always gone
Far over and above.

Dad, for instance, has an answer
For the hardest task,
Cars, directions, building things,
He's just the one to ask.

His expertise even extends
To his very own cuisine,
His vodka riggies are the best-
Now, if he'd just learn to clean!

Yes, Jim's the classic Italian Dad,
Both caring and protective,
We love it, but the boys we used to date
May have a different perspective.

And then there's Mom, who's never earned
A single unkind word,
Giving, friendly, pleasant, sweet,
Are terms more likely heard.

She's patient, kind and generous
In every situation,
And we can tell her anything,
Sometimes it's too much information!

Mom and Dad, your strong support,
Your endless faith in us
Have made us who we are today,
In that we all can trust.

And so tonight, let's raise a glass
In true appreciation
Of all the ways in which you've been
Our constant inspiration.

Love,

Jana, Chris, Jacquie, Janelle, Mike and Jim

Our wedding was many years ago. The celebration continues to this day. ~ Gene Perret

The difficulty with marriage is that we fall in love with a personality, but must live with a character. ~Peter Devries

Infatuation is when you think he's as sexy as Robert Redford, as smart as Henry Kissinger, as noble as Ralph Nader, as funny as Woody Allen, and as athletic as Jimmy Conners. Love is when you realize that he's as sexy as Woody Allen, as smart as Jimmy Connors, as funny as Ralph Nader, as athletic as Henry Kissinger and nothing like Robert Redford - but you'll take him anyway. ~Judith Viorst, Redbook, 1975da

A man reserves his true and deepest love not for the species of woman in whose company he finds himself electrified and enkindled, but for that one in whose company he may feel tenderly drowsy. ~George Jean Nathan
