#3 50th Anniversary Poem

Dear Anne and Bruce,

We're here for celebrations,
Yes, I guess that is the plan,
Fifty joyous years of Marriage,
What a couple - Bruce and Anne.

So, lets start from the beginning,
These pair both came from good stock,
Scot and German, Pole Ukrainian,
Families solid as a rock.

Times were harder way back then
And to get their daily bread,
Bruce and Anne learned young,
If you work hard you'll get ahead.

Anne would spend her time then,
A young lady with such charm,
Cooking on an old wood stove,
To feed the workers on the farm.

But when time would let her,
She would often feel the call,
To watch her brother, John, play fiddle,
While dancing at the Country hall.

As for Bruce, oh such a sweet child,
As a youngster so divine,
To stop him disappearing,
He was tied to the clothes line.

Yes, his Mother wasn't stupid,
And she had a great technique,
That red coat would stop him hiding,
In the bushes at the creek.

But let's move ahead in time a bit,
To a date which was bizarre,
It involves both Bruce and Anne here,
Out double dating in a car.

The only problem that they had,
And I don't mean to be blunt,
Was that Bruce was in the back seat,
And poor Anne was in the front.

Now Anne thought Bruce a show off,
And she found him irritating,
But with his cool Paul Newman looks,
It wasn't long till they were dating.

So fate it finally got them,
And the two were joined in marriage,
Then God blessed them through the years,
With two girls for their baby carriage.

So both myself and Judy,
We would help out with the chores,
But the highlight of our lives,
Was living in the great outdoors.

Skiing, fishing, hunting, riding,
Dad taught us everything he could,
But you should have seen poor Mom's face,
When he taught us to chop wood.

But let's move back to the present,
I think it's only fair to say,
If you ever have a problem,
Just lift the phone, Dad's on his way.

And Anne, your cooking's awesome,
As a Mother you're the best,
And it seems while playing slots,
That lady luck has got you blessed.

But I'd better finish up now,
And I'll thank you for your patience,
Let's wish them both well for the future,
Anne and Bruce, congratulations.

Love,

Cheryl

The difficulty with marriage is that we fall in love with a personality, but must live with a character. ~Peter Devries

Infatuation is when you think he's as sexy as Robert Redford, as smart as Henry Kissinger, as noble as Ralph Nader, as funny as Woody Allen, and as athletic as Jimmy Conners. Love is when you realize that he's as sexy as Woody Allen, as smart as Jimmy Connors, as funny as Ralph Nader, as athletic as Henry Kissinger and nothing like Robert Redford - but you'll take him anyway. ~Judith Viorst, Redbook, 1975da

A man reserves his true and deepest love not for the species of woman in whose company he finds himself electrified and enkindled, but for that one in whose company he may feel tenderly drowsy. ~George Jean Nathan
