#180 Sand Castles

Sand Castles

Papa cried, the morning momma wed.

A new fortress held her answers, identity.
But his fist hit hard like the tide as
he took another girl by the wrist, and in a
rush the castle dropped.

Her daddy cried.

Two babies he left. Three,
if you look into my mother’s eyes.
Weak as a victim in her own tower, she sought
a knight decked with dreamed security.

Papa cried.

Knowing the tide returns as golden masks fade in
second blows ripping deep scars in my soul. I
hold my Ma treading, locked by her own insecurities.

Papa cried, But I promised to watch for the tide.

Though cruelly the world came for me, alone
against monsters I hadn’t dreamed.
At once-to Nature I blindly sought and seeing
my castle in the sand

Papa died.
